Ylenia Olibet is a FRQSC Postdoctoral Fellow at McGill University researching women's film festivals and the geopolitics of feminism. Her work bridges feminist film theory, transnational media studies, and Quebec cinema within global circulation frameworks.
Her academic journey includes:
- B.A. in Literature and Performing Arts from La Sapienza University of Rome
- M.A. with Honors in Film Studies from University of Roma Tre, with exchanges at Sorbonne Nouvelle and Université de Montréal
- Ph.D. in Film and Moving Images Studies from Concordia University (2023)
Dr. Olibet's research centers on feminist film culture evolution in Francophone milieus, examining how digital media and pandemic disruptions reshape feminist storytelling and festival practices. She investigates reception patterns across transnational contexts while analyzing geopolitical dimensions of women's cinema.
Her publications (2022-2024) reveal consistent engagement with feminist archives, lesbian narratives, and festival ecologies. Key themes include the impact of digital platforms on queer storytelling, pandemic-era adaptations of feminist film culture, and the interplay between local Quebec production and global distribution networks.
Her scholarly recognition includes:
- FRQSC Postdoctoral Fellowship (2023-2025)
- RéQEF Doctoral Excellence Fellowship (2022)
- FMSAC Gerald Pratley Award (2022)
- FRQSC Doctoral Scholarship (2019-2021)
Currently collaborating with Dayna McLeod and Alanna Thain on feminist archive curation, Dr. Olibet directs her FRQSC-funded research toward mapping women's film festivals as geopolitical actors. Her multilingual (English/French/Italian) approach enables nuanced analysis of transnational feminist media practices across North American and European contexts.
