Yiğit Akın is Associate Professor and Carter V. Findley Professor of Ottoman and Turkish History at The Ohio State University. He specializes in the social and cultural history of the late Ottoman Empire and early Republican Turkey, focusing on World War I, nationalism, and social movements. Previously, he taught at the College of Charleston and Tulane University, where he received the Weiss Presidential Award for Undergraduate Teaching.
His research examines war and society relationships, nationalist movements, and comparative imperial studies. Key works include books on physical education in early republican Turkey and the Ottoman experience during WWI.
Dr. Akın received multiple prestigious awards including the Tomlinson Book Prize and Distinguished Young Social Scientist Award. He is currently researching post-war reconstruction in the Ottoman Empire.
As co-editor of the Ottoman Empire/Middle East section for the International Encyclopedia of the First World War, he contributes to global scholarly discourse on conflict studies.
