Yiyun Huang is a Lecturer in the Department of History at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Her research focuses on colonial and revolutionary America within a global context, particularly examining how Asian commodities and ideas influenced early American colonies. She holds a Ph.D. (2023) from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, alongside MA degrees from Shanghai International Studies University (2016) and University College London (2015), and a BA from Zhejiang Normal University (2013).
Her current book project, Medicinal Tea: Global Cultural Transfer and A Vast Early America, explores cultural exchanges between imperial China and British North America, emphasizing how Chinese medical knowledge about tea's health benefits spread to the Atlantic World through transoceanic networks. This work has been supported by prestigious fellowships from organizations including the American Historical Association and the Omohundro Institute.
Huang has presented research at institutions like the University of Pennsylvania and Pennsylvania State University. Her book reviews have appeared in the Journal of Early Republic and Journal of Asian Studies. She specializes in early American history, global commodity networks, and cross-cultural medical practices.
