Yixin Xu

Yixin Xu is a Doctoral Research Fellow in Art History at the University of Oslo, Faculty of Humanities. Holding an MA in Asian Studies from Cornell University and an MA in History of Art from The Courtauld Institute of Art, they focus on material culture and early modern global art history.

Their research examines how objects—such as chairs, handkerchiefs, and amber—traveled across geographical and temporal boundaries in early modern Eurasia, interacting with social lives and reflecting broader societal ideas. This work is framed within ecological approaches and global trade networks.

Current research projects include: An Ecological History of Eurasian Art and the PhD thesis Transcultural Exchange of Amber in Early Modern Eurasia. This interdisciplinary study explores amber's journey across Europe and Asia, emphasizing material culture and art history.
