Yixian Zheng is Professor and Interim Director of Biosphere Sciences & Engineering at Carnegie Institution for Science, where she directs the Department of Embryology. Her Baltimore-based Zheng Lab conducts interdisciplinary research bridging cell biology, developmental mechanisms, and coral reef conservation.
Research focuses on three pillars:
- Cell Division: Mechanisms of cytoskeletal dynamics and mitotic regulation
- Genome Organization: Nuclear architecture in development, tissue maintenance, and aging
- Endosymbiosis: Molecular basis of coral-algal symbiosis for reef conservation
Dr. Zheng mentors 3 graduate students and 3 postdocs in a collaborative environment integrating genetics, biochemistry, and genomics. The lab's publication record in journals like Nature Microbiology demonstrates impactful contributions spanning fundamental cell biology to environmental applications.
The Zheng Lab unites cell biologists, marine scientists, and bioinformaticians to address complex biological questions with dual relevance to human health and ecosystem sustainability.
