Yinxi Liu

Yinxi Liu serves as Assistant Professor in the Department of Cybersecurity at Rochester Institute of Technology's Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences. She is affiliated with the Global Cybersecurity Institute and participates in the Computing and Information Sciences Ph.D. program.

Her educational background includes a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Dr. Liu's research centers on computer security, programming languages, software engineering, and algorithms & complexity. She develops (in)formal models to reduce program analysis complexity for security risk detection, with applications in security audit, program analysis, and worst-case complexity. Her mission statement emphasizes "igniting a beacon for vulnerability discovery in the sea of program states and execution paths."

Recent publications (2021-2025) demonstrate expertise in vulnerability detection across diverse domains including regular expressions, algorithmic complexity, deep state bugs, and blockchain smart contracts. These works published in top venues like IEEE SP, CCS, and FSE showcase methodological innovations in program analysis and security testing.

Dr. Liu actively recruits students with strong programming skills for minimum 6-month research engagements and maintains a letter for prospective students. She teaches CSEC-380 Principles of Web Application Security and CSEC-759 Graduate Seminar in Computing Security.

Her institutional affiliations include the Global Cybersecurity Institute, which serves as RIT's central hub for cybersecurity research and education initiatives.
