Dr. Yingwei (Paul) Peng is a Professor in the Department of Public Health Sciences at Queen's University, affiliated with the School of Medicine and Faculty of Health Sciences. He holds cross-appointments in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics (Faculty of Arts and Science) and serves as a Biostatistician in the Cancer Care and Epidemiology Division of Queen's Cancer Research Institute. His research focuses on biostatistical methodologies, particularly cure models, survival analysis, longitudinal data analysis, and causal inference in clinical and population studies of cancer treatments.
Dr. Peng earned his PhD from the University of Newcastle, Australia. His work bridges methodological innovation with applied research in oncology, health services, and public health. He collaborates with researchers at institutions like the NCIC Clinical Trials Group and the National Cancer Institute (NCI). His research has been published in high-impact journals such as Journal of the National Cancer Institute and Drug and Alcohol Dependence.
His research interests include biomarkers (e.g., PTEN loss quantification), sleep medicine, and environmental risk factors in disease. He actively advises students and mentors postdoctoral fellows in biostatistics. Dr. Peng serves on grant review panels for CIHR and NSERC, and is an Associate Editor for the Canadian Journal of Statistics.
Key themes in his publications include statistical methods for survival analysis with cure fractions, mental health outcomes in cancer survivors, and optimizing chemotherapy utilization patterns in bladder cancer. His work emphasizes translating statistical innovations into clinical practice and public health policy.
