Dr Ying Ye is an Associate Professor within the Engineering and Physical Sciences faculty at the University of Southampton, affiliated with the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research. She holds a PhD in Human Response to Vibration from the same institution (2014) and has transitioned from a Research Fellow position to her current academic role.
Her research focuses on understanding human physiological and subjective responses to mechanical vibrations, particularly in occupational settings. Key areas include hand-arm vibration syndrome prevention, motion sickness in automated vehicles, and vibration measurement technology development. She collaborates with industry partners on ergonomic standards and workplace safety protocols.
Teaching responsibilities include:
- Module Lead for AUDI6004 Applied Research Methods (MSc Audiology)
- Lecturer for FEEG3004 Human Factors in Engineering (Civil Engineering)
- Lecturer for ISVR3061 Human responses to sound and vibration (Acoustical Engineering)
Current PhD students: Busra Kocak Erdem (PhD Eng & Env) and Jinchi Lu (PhD Eng & Env). Active in peer-reviewed publishing with recent focus on vibration thresholds, motion sickness metrics, and automotive human factors.
