Ying-Lan Dann is a Lecturer in Interior Design at RMIT University's School of Architecture and Urban Design. She holds dual roles as a practicing architect (ARBV) and visual artist, specializing in research-led design that bridges art, architecture, and materiality. Her work emphasizes experimental fieldwork and exhibition design as collaborative spatial research methods.
Current academic roles include First-Year Coordinator for the Bachelor of Interior Design program (2022–present) and Professional Practice Coordinator (2018–2023). She teaches design studios, history/theory, and site-drawing specializations. Notable projects include exhibition designs for Nicholas Mangan at MCA (2024) and Bianca Hester at UNSW Gallery (2024), as well as leadership of the ARC Linkage project Parallel Structures (2023–2024).
Her research explores drawing as a generative tool in spatial practice, with recent presentations at the Film and Architecture Symposium (Toronto, 2023) and Researching Beyond Words (Lyon, 2023). Collaborations include work with Dr. Saskia Schut and the RMIT Design Archives. Current projects include her PhD on drawing methodologies, to be submitted in 2025.
Teaching contributions span 10+ years across design studios, professional practice, and theory courses. Industry experience includes architectural roles at Freadman White Architects and Keith Streames, alongside her own practice Sertori Lau Architecture since 2016.
