Yilong Zhang is a Golomb Visiting Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Purdue University's Department of Mathematics (College of Science). His mentor is Donu Arapura. He earned his PhD from The Ohio State University in 2022 under Herb Clemens. Starting Fall 2025, he will join the University of Georgia as a Limited Term Assistant Professor.
Research focuses on algebraic geometry, particularly Hodge theory, cubic hypersurfaces, and algebraic varieties' topology. Notable works include studies on Hilbert schemes, Abel-Jacobi maps, and vanishing cycles. He organizes the Purdue Algebraic Geometry Seminar with Takumi Murayama and Deepam Patel. Recent travels include speaking at OSU's Arithmetics, K-theory conference (May 2025) and Notre Dame's Discrete Groups thematic program (June 2025).
Teaching includes MA 265 Linear Algebra (Spring 2025). Mentoring activities include undergraduate REU programs, graduate reading courses on Riemann Surfaces, and problem-solving seminars. His notes cover topics like rationality of varieties and O-minimal Chow's theorem.
