Yilmaz Akkaya

Prof. Yilmaz Akkaya is a Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Istanbul Technical University (ITU), where he has held the position since 2012. He serves as Deputy Responsible for the ITU Faculty of Civil Engineering Building Materials Laboratory. His academic journey includes a PhD from Northwestern University, USA, and earlier degrees from ITU in Structural Engineering and Civil Engineering. His research focuses on construction materials, structural engineering, and durability of materials, with a strong emphasis on concrete technology and fiber-reinforced composites. Key areas include frost resistance in concrete, recycled aggregate utilization, early-age concrete behavior, and nondestructive evaluation techniques.

His work spans theoretical and applied research, addressing challenges in sustainable infrastructure, material performance under extreme conditions, and innovative construction practices.
