Dr. Yijian Zeng is an Associate Professor at the Department of Water Resources at the University of Twente, Netherlands. He specializes in Earth observation, soil-plant system modeling, and climate science. His research focuses on integrating physically-based models with remote sensing data to understand soil-water-plant interactions and their impacts on climate resilience.
- Co-chair of the International Soil Modeling Consortium (ISMC)
- Member of GEWEX's GLASS Panel
- Co-lead of the GEWEX-SoilWat Initiative
Key projects include the WUNDER project ($1.5M), EcoExtreML ($253K), and MINERVA (NWO PIPP). His work spans satellite data validation, land surface modeling (STEMMUS/SCOPE), and digital twin development for soil-plant systems. He has published over 150 articles and contributed to global climate data records (CDRs).
Awards include the WMO Research Award for Young Scientists and Springer Theses Project Recognition. His research addresses climate change impacts on water resources and ecosystem functioning through transdisciplinary approaches.
