Yiftach Fehige

Professor Yiftach Fehige is a core faculty member at the University of Toronto’s Institute for the History and Philosophy of Science and Technology (IHPST), where he has been affiliated since 2007. His interdisciplinary work bridges the history, philosophy, and theology of science, with a focus on the evolving relationship between scientific and religious thought.

His recent publications, including Thought Experiments, Science, and Theology (2024) and Science & Religion in a Democratic Society (forthcoming), highlight his contributions to understanding the epistemic and cultural intersections of science and religion. Research themes include the role of thought experiments in theological discourse, post-metaphysical approaches to atheism, and cross-cultural comparisons of scientific and religious traditions.

Selected scientific honors include his election as a Fellow of the International Society for Science and Religion. His work has been supported by major grants from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the German Research Foundation (DFG), DAAD, SSHRC, and the University of Notre Dame.

At the IHPST, he supervises doctoral projects, teaches undergraduate courses, and leads international study trips, such as on the history of science and Judaism in Germany. He is also an Experiential Learning Fellow in the Faculty of Arts & Science, advocating for hands-on pedagogical innovation.
