Yi Zhu

Yi Zhu is a Researcher at Heidelberg University's Echowall research group since 2018. Previously, they earned a PhD in Political Communication from the Graduate School of East Asian Studies (GEAS), Freie Universität Berlin, in February 2022. Their doctoral research focused on the role of Chinese actors in shaping the online public sphere within an authoritarian context, particularly examining the abolition of the “reeducation through labor (Laojiao)” system. The dissertation committee included Bettina Gransow, Carola Richter, Barbara Pfetsch, Michael Emmer, and Anna Litvinenko.
