Yi-Wen Chang is an Applied Music Instructor in Piano at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, where she has been a faculty member since 2018. She is based at the Gearan Performing Arts Center and is affiliated with the Music Department within the School of Performing Arts. Chang is also on the piano faculty at the Hochstein School of Music and serves as a collaborative pianist at Nazareth College and SUNY Geneseo.

Chang is a distinguished concert pianist known for her expressive technique and innovative programming. Her artistic interests center on the stylistic progression of music after the 18th century, with a strong emphasis on contemporary works and piano transcriptions of operas, symphonies, and folk music. She founded the “Then and Now” concert series in 2015 to explore the evolution of musical styles. Her performances have taken place internationally, including venues in the U.S., Canada, Russia, and Taiwan, and have been broadcast on WXXI and WBFO radio. She has premiered her own compositions and collaborated with renowned composers such as Jennifer Higdon, David Liptak, and Benet Casablancas.
As an educator, Chang is deeply committed to music pedagogy. She has published the Chinese translation of R.O.Morris’ Figured Harmony At The Keyboard (Oxford University Press), a widely adopted text in Chinese-speaking institutions. She has served as an adjudicator for prestigious competitions including the MTNA New York State Competition and the Taiwan Biennial National Piano Competition.
