She holds dual appointments as both an Orthopedic Surgeon in the Sports Medicine Division and as Ortho Consultant/Team Physician for Regis College. Her clinical practice spans multiple Boston-area locations including Boston Children's Hospital main campus (319 Longwood Avenue), Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Department (300 Longwood Avenue), and the Waltham campus (9 Hope Avenue).
Dr. Yen's research focuses on pediatric orthopedics and sports medicine with particular expertise in hip preservation, knee arthroscopy, and pediatric fracture management. Her work examines critical anatomical considerations in developing joints, surgical outcomes in adolescent athletes, and complications prevention in pediatric orthopedic procedures. Her publications reveal consistent investigation into hip pathologies including slipped capital femoral epiphysis, labral tears, and acetabular morphology, alongside knee conditions such as ACL injuries, meniscal tears, and collateral ligament injuries.
Her 15 most recent publications (2017-2020) demonstrate a strong emphasis on anatomical safety in pediatric arthroscopic procedures, with multiple studies using MRI and cadaveric analysis to define neurovascular structures in developing knees and hips. She has contributed significantly to understanding hip preservation techniques in adolescents, particularly regarding vascular supply to the femoral head and acetabular cartilage lesion predictors. Her work bridges basic anatomical research with clinical outcomes analysis across sports medicine and trauma contexts.
Dr. Yen maintains active clinical engagement as evidenced by her ongoing appointment as Ortho Consultant for Regis College athletics and her position within Boston Children's Sports Medicine Division which serves over 150 prestigious sports and performing arts organizations including the Boston Ballet, Boston Marathon, and numerous collegiate athletic programs. The division's research portfolio includes innovative work on ACL reconstruction techniques like bridge-enhanced ACL repair (BEAR) and national studies comparing surgical outcomes for young athletes.
