Yi Ji is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Delaware. He earned his Ph.D. in Physics from Johns Hopkins University in 2003 and a B.S. in Physics from Peking University in 1997. His academic career at the University of Delaware spans from Assistant Professor (2006-2012) to his current role as Associate Professor since 2012.
His research focuses on electromagnetic materials physics, including spintronics, spin orbitronics, high-frequency soft magnetic materials, and nanostructured magnetic materials. He works with state-of-the-art facilities such as magnetron sputtering systems, electrospinning systems, and advanced characterization tools like X-ray diffraction and vibrating sample magnetometers (VSM).
He has taught courses like PHYS624: Introduction to Solid State Physics and PHYS245: Introduction to Electricity and Electronics, emphasizing hands-on laboratory work and practical applications of physics in engineering. His lab integrates experimental and computational approaches to study spin dynamics, magnetic heterostructures, and electromagnetic energy conversion systems.
