Yi-Jen Chiang is Associate Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at NYU Tandon School of Engineering, where he directs the MS program. His research develops algorithms for large-scale visualization and geometric computing.
Dr. Chiang's work focuses on:
- Out-of-core algorithms for massive datasets
- Motion planning for complex robots
- Time-varying data visualization
- Geometric compression techniques
His publications span theoretical algorithms and practical systems, with recent work on soft subdivision planning for high-DOF manipulators and streaming methods for in situ data reduction. Earlier foundational work established I/O-optimal approaches for isosurface extraction and view-dependent simplification.
Dr. Chiang teaches courses in computer graphics and algorithm design, and has chaired programs for IEEE Visualization conferences. His group develops open-source tools for scientific data analysis and robotics applications.
