Yi Hua

Yi Hua is an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Mississippi. He leads The Vision Laboratory, focusing on biomechanics and its role in visual impairment caused by diseases and injuries affecting the eye, brain, and optic nerve.

His research employs computational modeling (finite element analysis, meshfree methods) and advanced imaging techniques (OCT, confocal microscopy, super-resolution ultrasound) to study conditions like myopia, glaucoma, Spaceflight-Associated Neuro-ocular Syndrome (SANS), and blast-induced ocular injuries. He also investigates mechanical tissue testing and shock tube experiments for traumatic brain injury (TBI) related vision defects.

During his postdoctoral fellowship (2016-2023) at the University of Pittsburgh's Laboratory of Ocular Biomechanics, he received a BrightFocus Foundation Fellowship to study blood flow and oxygenation in the optic nerve head.
