Dr. Yi Du is a postdoctoral researcher at the Chair of Sustainable Construction at ETH Zürich. He holds a Ph.D. from ETH Zürich (2023), an M.Sc. from Southeast University, China (2018), and a B.Sc. from Hohai University, China (2015). His research focuses on sustainable construction materials, including cementitious systems, earth-based composites, and bio-additives. He collaborates with Empa on developing additives to control shrinkage in earth materials and leads projects on poured earth applications and regenerative materials in rural China.
His expertise includes low-carbon construction materials, colloidal interactions, and industrial hemp biochar-earth plasters. He has been affiliated with the Youth Committee of China Green Building Council (since 2024) and the RILEM Youth Council (since 2023). His work emphasizes material innovation for environmental sustainability, with notable contributions to waterproof poured earth formulations and CO2-regulating building components.
Dr. Du’s research integrates traditional material insights with modern technologies, addressing challenges in durability, carbon footprint reduction, and resource efficiency. His postdoctoral projects aim to bridge academic innovation with practical applications in rural development and eco-friendly construction practices.
