Yi Ding

Dr. Yi Ding is a Professor of School Psychology at Fordham University's Graduate School of Education. She maintains an office in Lowenstein 1008I and can be reached at 212-636-6743 or yding4@fordham.edu. Her office hours are Tuesdays from noon to 4:40 pm, with additional appointments available by email request.

Dr. Ding's educational background includes:

• B.Ed., M.Ed. in Special Education from Beijing Normal University
• Ed.S., Ph.D. in School Psychology from The University of Iowa
• APA Accredited Internship at University of Minnesota Medical School (Pediatric Psychology and Pediatric Neuropsychology rotations)

Dr. Ding's research focuses on learning disabilities, developmental disabilities, STEM learning, and special education and school psychology issues from a multicultural perspective. Her work examines cognitive processes, educational interventions, and the psychological impact of technology on students across different cultural contexts. She has extensively studied how working memory, automaticity, and cognitive strategies affect mathematical and reading abilities in children, with particular attention to cross-cultural differences between Chinese and American students.

Analysis of Dr. Ding's recent publications reveals a strong focus on the psychological impact of technology on children and adolescents, particularly regarding mobile phone and video game usage. Her research explores how screen media affects learning, mental health, and social development, with numerous studies examining this through a cross-cultural lens comparing Chinese and American populations. She has also conducted significant research on international student adjustment during the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting stress, coping mechanisms, and mental health challenges.

Dr. Ding has received professional recognition as a Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) and holds licensure as a psychologist in the State of New York.

With extensive experience across multiple educational settings, Dr. Ding has practiced in various school environments, department clinics, and hospital settings. Her teaching portfolio includes courses such as Applications of Behavior Analysis in Educational Settings (PSGE6311), Assessment Strategies for Young Children with Disabilities (CTGE5157), Clinical Practicum in School Psychology (PSGE7500/7501), Cognitive Assessment (PSGE7508), and Race and Multicultural Education (EDGE6101).
