Dr Yi-Chung Lin is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Australian Catholic University's School of Behavioural and Health Sciences, specializing in biomechanics and musculoskeletal modeling. He currently leads a National Football League-funded project validating inertial measurement units (IMUs) for assessing lower-limb kinematics in elite sports, focusing on hamstring injury risk mitigation. His research integrates computational methods to study muscle function and movement biomechanics across activities like walking, sprinting, and stair ambulation.
Dr Lin holds a PhD from the University of Florida (2008–2022) and completed postdoctoral training at the University of Melbourne, focusing on developing novel computational approaches for non-invasive muscle function evaluation. He has pioneered methods like direct collocation for optimal control simulations and surrogate contact modeling to predict joint forces during gait.
His research interests span biomechanical engineering, sports injury prevention, and musculoskeletal health. Notable accolades include the Scandinavian Journal of Medicine & Science in Sports Paper of the Year (2022) and the Richard Skalak Best Paper Award (2020). He serves as a guest editor for journals on wearable sensor technology and human locomotion modeling.
Key projects include the $4 million HAMIR Index initiative to develop injury mitigation strategies for football athletes and studies on hip joint loading in athletes with groin pain. His work bridges biomechanical theory with clinical applications, emphasizing translational research for human health.
