Yi Chen is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science, University of Hong Kong, since Fall 2024. She holds a PhD from the Institute of Information Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Indiana University Bloomington under Prof. XiaoFeng Wang. Her research focuses on leveraging AI/ML techniques to address critical security issues in systems and networks, including NLP-based vulnerability prediction, documentation-driven security, and mobile security. She teaches COMP3278 (Database Management Systems) and serves on committees for CCS 2025 and FutureG 2025, as well as the editorial board of Cybersecurity (2025–2027).
Education:
- PhD: Institute of Information Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences
- Postdoctoral Fellowship: Indiana University Bloomington
Research Interests: Combining AI with cybersecurity, particularly using NLP to predict software vulnerabilities and design mitigation strategies. Active areas include AI-applied security (e.g., USENIX Security'2024), mobile security (e.g., CCS'2021), and documentation-driven security frameworks (e.g., S&P'2021).
Advising & Grants: Actively recruiting highly motivated students (PhD, RA, postdoc, etc.) with system security experience and AI/ML expertise. Applications require a CV, academic achievements, research plan aligned with her group's work, and career motivation statement.
