Dr. Yeosun Yoon serves as an NIHR Research Associate in Data Science within the Applied Social Sciences Group (ASSG) at the University of Cambridge's Department of Public Health and Primary Care (PHPC). Her work bridges public health research with advanced data science methodologies, focusing on vulnerable populations and social determinants of health.
Her academic foundation includes a PhD from the University of Kent investigating UK labour market inequalities through longitudinal quantitative analysis. Prior to Cambridge, she conducted critical research at the University of Bristol on mental health trajectories of children in care and contributed to youth mental health initiatives at UCL's Evidence Based Practice Unit and the Anna Freud Centre.
Dr. Yoon's research synthesizes data science with social epidemiology to address mental health disparities, particularly among children in care and other at-risk groups. Her methodology emphasizes longitudinal quantitative approaches to uncover patterns in wellbeing and social inequality, leveraging large-scale datasets to inform public health interventions.
As a core member of the Primary Care Unit (PCU) within PHPC, she contributes to research themes including behaviour and health, health services research, and global health. Her current NIHR-funded role focuses on applying computational techniques to primary care data, enhancing understanding of population health dynamics through the ASSG's interdisciplinary framework.
Her professional trajectory reflects deep commitment to translating research into practice, with expertise spanning academic institutions (Kent, Bristol, UCL) and clinical research settings (Anna Freud Centre). She maintains active collaboration across the Cambridge research ecosystem while advancing data-driven approaches to public health challenges.
