Yelena Mandelshtam

Yelena Mandelshtam is an NSF Mathematical Sciences Postdoctoral Research Fellow and member of the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS). She will join the University of Michigan in Fall 2025 as a Parekh Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics, working with Thomas Lam. Previously, she held a UC President's Postdoctoral Fellowship at UCLA under Pavel Galashin. She earned her PhD in Mathematics from UC Berkeley, advised by Bernd Sturmfels, with a dissertation titled *Algebraic curves, Grassmannians, and integrable systems*.

Her research focuses on Combinatorial Algebraic Geometry, exploring topics such as algebraic curves, Grassmannians, and integrable systems. She has been supported by the NSF MSPRF, UC President's Postdoctoral Fellowship, and the Bob Moses Fund of IAS.

Yelena’s academic journey includes collaborations with leading mathematicians and contributions to interdisciplinary areas at the intersection of algebraic geometry and mathematical physics. Her future work at the University of Michigan will further integrate these fields, advancing theoretical frameworks in her discipline.
