معرفی
Yehu Moran is a Professor and current Department Head in the Department of Ecology, Evolution and Behavior at the Alexander Silberman Institute of Life Sciences, Hebrew University of Jerusalem. His research focuses on evolutionary biology, combining experimental and computational approaches to study the evolution of complex systems in cnidarians. Key affiliations include leadership roles in his department and collaborations with institutions internationally.
Education: BSc (2001), MSc (Biochemistry, 2005), PhD (2010) from Tel Aviv University; postdoctoral research at the University of Vienna under Ulrich Technau. Research interests span innate immunity, microRNA pathways, cnidarian toxins, and ion channel evolution. Supported by grants from ERC, BSF, ISF, and others.
Research highlights include discovering ancestral antiviral mechanisms in cnidarians, uncovering evolutionary links between plant and animal microRNA systems, and studying venom evolution through molecular and ecological lenses. The lab employs transgenic tools in Nematostella, integrating genomics, proteomics, and electrophysiology. Notable contributions include over 50 peer-reviewed publications and collaborative projects on cnidarian viromes and venom ecology.
Awards include funding from prestigious agencies and recognition for work on toxin evolution (e.g., ERC Consolidator Grant for AntiViralEvo). The lab trains students/postdocs in experimental biology, bioinformatics, and evolutionary genetics, with alumni taking roles at institutions like North Carolina State University and the Marine Biology Association.
