Yee-Ming Chan

Yee-Ming Chan is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School and the Medical Director of the Behavioral Health, Endocrinology, Gynecology, and Urology (BEING-U) Program at Boston Children's Hospital. He is also an Attending Physician in the Division of Endocrinology. His research focuses on the reproductive endocrine system, particularly conditions affecting puberty timing, fertility, and gender diversity. Dr. Chan has a strong translational research background, studying genetic factors influencing puberty and reproductive health, alongside clinical work in transgender and gender-diverse youth care. He holds a BS in Biology from Yale University, a PhD in Genetics from UCSF, and an MD from UCSF, with fellowship training in Pediatric Endocrinology at Boston Children's Hospital.

His research interests include the developmental aspects of the reproductive endocrine system, genetic determinants of pubertal timing, and the psychosocial and medical impacts of gender-affirming treatments. Key areas of study include constitutional delay of puberty, disorders of sex development (DSD), and the long-term outcomes of transgender youth undergoing hormone therapy.

Publications highlight his work on genetic variants linked to puberty disorders, the effects of sex steroids on immune cells, and psychosocial outcomes in transgender youth. He leads initiatives such as the Trans Youth Care Study, evaluating the impact of early medical interventions. His clinical practice emphasizes patient-centered care for conditions like precocious puberty, delayed puberty, and DSD, balancing medical guidance with family and patient values.

Dr. Chan’s expertise also extends to surgical decisions in DSD management, the ethical implications of early genital surgery, and the role of genetic testing in endocrine disorders. He collaborates with multidisciplinary teams at Boston Children’s Hospital to address complex endocrine conditions through integrated clinical and research approaches.
