Yaroslav O. Halchenko

Yaroslav O. Halchenko is a Research Professor in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences and an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Dartmouth College. He directs the Center for Open Neuroscience (CON), a hub for advancing open science practices in neuroscience. Halchenko holds a B.S. in Optoelectronic Engineering from Vinnitsa State University (Ukraine), an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of New Mexico, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the New Jersey Institute of Technology.

His research focuses on neuroimaging, machine learning, and open science frameworks. He develops tools for reproducible neuroscience research, including software distributions (e.g., NeuroDebian), data management platforms (e.g., DataLad), and standards for open data sharing. His work emphasizes collaboration, integration of existing solutions, and quality assurance in scientific software.

Halchenko’s contributions include pioneering initiatives like the BRAIN Initiative-funded DANDI Archive for neural data and the PyMVPA machine learning library. He advocates for open-source principles and community-driven development to enhance scientific transparency and reproducibility.
