Yarimar Bonilla is Professor of American Studies in the Effron Center for the Study of America at Princeton University. A political anthropologist and public intellectual, her work examines race, empire, and sovereignty in the Caribbean.
Research Focus:
- Postcolonial sovereignty and racial politics
- Disaster capitalism in Puerto Rico
- Digital activism and social movements
Her award-winning publications include analyses of Hurricane Maria's aftermath and racial subjectivity formation. Bonilla directs the Mellon-funded Bridging the Divides project and contributes regularly to the New York Times.
