Yannis Theodoridis serves as Associate Professor at the Department of Informatics, University of Piraeus, Greece, where he leads the Information Management Lab. His academic career includes prior research positions at the Hellenic Research Foundation (1997-1998) and the Computer Technology Institute (1999-2002).
He earned his Diploma (1990) and Ph.D. (1996) in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece.
Professor Theodoridis specializes in Data Science with emphasis on mobility data management, analysis, and mining. His research bridges theoretical foundations in spatial databases with practical applications in spatiotemporal data processing, contributing significantly to European projects like GeoPKDD and MODAP. His work demonstrates consistent innovation in handling complex mobility datasets across transportation, urban planning, and location-based services domains.
He maintains active leadership in the academic community through conference organization including SSTD'03 and ECML/PKDD'11, editorial board membership for the International Journal on Data Warehousing and Mining, and international teaching engagements at institutions including KAUST and Ghent University. His research grants portfolio features coordination of major EU initiatives such as PANDA, CODMINE, and DATASIM spanning FP6 to FP7 frameworks.
At the University of Piraeus, he teaches core courses in databases, data mining, and GIS at both undergraduate and graduate levels, while his Information Management Lab drives cutting-edge research in mobility data exploration through industry-academic partnerships.
