Yannick Bomble

Yannick Bomble serves as a Group Research Manager III and Senior Research Scientist at the Biosciences Center of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), where he has been conducting research since 2008. His work focuses on advancing bioenergy technologies through microbial engineering and computational approaches to biomass conversion.

Dr. Bomble's primary research interests include the development of thermophilic bacteria for biomass deconstruction, metabolic modeling and pathway engineering for biofuel production, and the characterization and engineering of biomass-degrading enzymes. His expertise spans quantum chemical calculations, molecular dynamics simulations, protein characterization, and computational modeling, with applications in improving cell-free biocatalysis systems and metabolic engineering of microorganisms.

His recent publications demonstrate a strong trend toward integrating machine learning with traditional biochemical approaches to understand enzyme specificity and improve biocatalyst performance. His work frequently addresses challenges in thermostability, cofactor engineering, and pathway optimization for sustainable production of fuels and chemicals from biomass.

Dr. Bomble was honored with the NREL Distinguished Member of Research Staff award in 2021, recognizing his exceptional scientific contributions and leadership in advancing the laboratory's bioenergy research mission.

As a research manager, Dr. Bomble leads projects focused on developing advanced biocatalysts and engineering microbial systems for biomass conversion. His laboratory work integrates experimental biochemistry with computational modeling to address fundamental challenges in bioenergy production.
