Mihalis Yannakakis is the Percy K. and Vida L. W. Hudson Professor of Computer Science at Columbia University, a position he has held since 2004. Prior to this, he served as a Professor of Computer Science at Stanford University (2002–2003), and held leadership roles as Head of the Computing Principles Research Department at Avaya Laboratories (2001–2002) and Bell Laboratories (1991–2001). He earned his PhD from Princeton University. His academic career is characterized by a focus on the theoretical foundations of computing, including algorithm design, computational complexity, and database systems.
