Dr. Yang Xiao is a Lecturer in Engineering (Electrical and Electronics) at the University of Leicester, where he has been since December 2023. He holds the position of Deputy Director of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering discipline and has over 10 years of combined academic and industrial experience in electrical machine research. His expertise spans from large-scale generators for hydro power to high-torque-density traction motors for electric vehicles and ultra-high-speed machines for energy storage systems. Dr. Xiao has successfully commercialized multiple industry-collaborative projects and holds 20 granted patents in US/EU/China, alongside over 30 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals like IEEE Transactions and IET Proceedings.
His research focuses on advanced electrical machine design, fault-tolerant systems, and energy-efficient drives. Notable contributions include innovative modular-rotor designs for wind power generation and magnetic-field-shifting techniques enhancing torque density in asymmetric permanent magnet machines. Dr. Xiao has received several accolades, including Best Paper Awards at SMART 2024 and ISEEIE 2024.
