Yang Liu

Yang Liu is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Entomology, Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences, University of Manitoba. Their work integrates taxonomy, pest control, and ecological studies.

Research focuses on integrative taxonomy, systematics of leafhoppers and Mordellidae beetles, insect diversity monitoring, and agricultural/forest pest control using DNA barcoding and morphological analysis. Current projects include global systematic studies of the genus Empoasca and geometric morphological analysis of tumbling flower beetles.

Publications from 2006–2025 span medical biotechnology, cancer therapy, immunology, and molecular diagnostics, featuring photodynamic therapy for colorectal and pancreatic cancers, microfluidic devices for T-cell studies, and nanoparticle applications. These appear unrelated to their entomology role, suggesting potential data inconsistency or interdisciplinary collaboration.

Dr. Liu teaches courses including Introduction to Applied Entomology (ENTM 3190), World of Bugs (ENTM 1000), and advanced insect taxonomy. They actively seek graduate students and postdoctoral fellows with expertise in taxonomy, GIS, ecology, and integrated pest management.
