Dr. Yan-Qing Ma is a Senior Investigator at the Versiti Blood Research Institute and a Professor at the Medical College of Wisconsin. She leads research into integrin signaling in blood cells, focusing on Kindlin-3's role in platelets and myeloid cells during immunothrombosis. Her work addresses diseases like thrombosis and endotoxemia, with grants from NIH-NHLBI (R01HL15730 and R01HL16086) and Versiti. She holds a PhD from the Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences (Chinese Academy of Sciences) and completed postdoctoral training at the Cleveland Clinic’s Lerner Research Institute.
Her lab investigates how Kindlin-3 modulates immune responses and thrombosis, using biochemical, cellular, and animal models. Current projects explore immunothrombosis in conditions like deep vein thrombosis and endotoxemia, with potential applications in treating complications such as those seen in severe infections or post-COVID-19 syndromes.
Dr. Ma’s lab includes researchers Zhen Xu, Zhiwei Xu, and technologists Marjorie Kipp and Ying Zhou. She actively recruits postdoctoral fellows and research technologists skilled in cell biology, biochemistry, and animal handling. Versiti’s environment fosters collaboration with clinical and basic research programs at Milwaukee’s major hospitals.
