Professor Yacine Belghitar serves as Professor of Corporate Finance and Course Director for the Finance MSc program at Cranfield School of Management, Cranfield University. Prior to joining Cranfield, he held academic positions at Middlesex and Durham Universities, where he served as Research Leader for the accounting and finance group and Director of the MSc in Finance program.
Professor Belghitar's research focuses on the critical intersection of Finance, Small Business, and Corporate Strategic Management Decisions. His scholarly work significantly contributes to understanding how managerial risk attitudes influence corporate governance structures and executive compensation practices. His research on managerial compensation and risk taking has been funded by ESRC, the UK's most prestigious social science funding body. He currently serves as associate editor of Frontiers in Finance and Economics Journal and acts as an ad-hoc referee for multiple academic journals while also serving as an external examiner for academic institutions.
Professor Belghitar's recent publications demonstrate extensive expertise across diverse financial contexts, with particular emphasis on SME finance during crises, as evidenced by his influential 2021 Small Business Economics paper analyzing the impact of government interventions on 42,401 UK SMEs during the pandemic. His research spans multiple geographic regions including the UK, South Korea, Indonesia, Pakistan, and India, examining how cultural, political, and institutional factors shape financial decision-making across different economic environments. His work frequently addresses trade credit practices across cultures, the impact of religiosity on financing activities, political connections in corporate performance, and the effects of technological disruption on labor markets.
As an active member of the academic community, Professor Belghitar supervises PhD students and regularly presents his research at national and international conferences. His scholarly output has been published in top international academic journals including Economic Journal, Journal of Financial Research, Journal of Banking and Finance, and Small Business Economics, establishing him as a significant contributor to contemporary finance scholarship with practical business applications.
