Dr Ya-Chun Liu is a Lecturer in Chinese at the School of Languages, Cultures and Societies, University of Leeds, within the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures. She is actively engaged in teaching and research, focusing on Sinophone literature, culture, translation, and trauma studies. She also serves as Co-Director of East Asian Studies (Student Support) and LCS PGR Mentor, and is a council member of the British Association for Chinese Studies.

Her research centers on trauma and justice in the Sinophone world, the role of faith and religion in Chinese-speaking contexts, and issues of linguistic justice. She employs cultural, historical, and socio-political lenses in examining cross-cultural transfers, particularly of Christian literature into Taiwan, and the adaptation of transitional justice paradigms in Sinophone societies.
Her work reflects interdisciplinary engagement across translation studies, memory studies, religious studies, and sociolinguistics, with a strong regional focus on Taiwan and broader Chinese-speaking communities.

Dr Liu supervises postgraduate researchers and contributes to core Chinese language instruction and content-based modules in Sinophone literature and culture. She was a resident fellow at the European Research Center on Contemporary Taiwan (ERCCT) in Tübingen, Germany, where she conducted comparative research on transitional justice. She is also affiliated with the Centre for World Literatures at Leeds.
