Xuwen Chen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Rochester's School of Arts and Sciences. He received his PhD from the University of Maryland in 2012 and previously served as a Tamarkin Assistant Professor at Brown University.
His research focuses on analysis of PDEs and mathematical physics, particularly the derivation of macroscopic equations from quantum many-body systems, kinetic theory, and nonlinear dispersive equations. His work bridges quantum dynamics, statistical mechanics, and fluid dynamics.
Chen's publications demonstrate a consistent focus on kinetic and hydrodynamic limits of quantum systems, well-posedness analysis for nonlinear PDEs, and mathematical foundations of statistical physics. Recent work advances understanding of Boltzmann and Euler equation derivations from first principles.
