Xueya Cai, PhD, is a Research Associate Professor in the Department of Biostatistics and Computational Biology at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. She holds a PhD from SUNY Buffalo (2008) and has over 20 years of experience in biostatistics and health services research. Her work focuses on causal inference, missing data analysis, and applications in biomedical and health services research, particularly in nursing home quality, surgical outcomes, and disparities in care.
- Education: PhD in Biostatistics (SUNY Buffalo, 2008), MA in Biostatistics (SUNY Buffalo, 2006), BM in Maternal and Child Health (Shanghai Medical University, 1997)
- Roles: Editor-in-Chief of Health Services and Outcome Research Methodology, NIH Study Section Member (HSQE), and leader of the Surgical Health Outcomes & Research Enterprise (SHORE) Data Core.
Her research interests include developing statistical methods for health disparities, clinical trial design, and predictive modeling in healthcare. Notable collaborations span orthopaedic surgeries, chronic pain management, and nursing home quality improvement.
Awards include the 2020 JAGS Most Cited Award and the 2018 Research to Prevent Blindness Award. She has mentored over 20 graduate students and junior faculty, with a focus on health services and biomedical research.
