Xue-Ping Ling

Xue-Ping Ling is a Professor at the Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Xiamen University, China. Her research integrates fermentation, genetic and metabolic engineering to develop microbial processes for high-value lipids and carotenoids.

Education:

Research Interests:

Prof. Ling’s work centers on fermentation engineering, genetic engineering and metabolic engineering of micro-organisms. She exploits oleaginous fungi, thraustochytrids and yeasts to over-produce polyunsaturated fatty acids (arachidonic, docosahexaenoic), astaxanthin and other high-value metabolites. Proteomic and biochemical approaches are combined with bioreactor optimization to enhance yields and understand regulatory networks.

Publication Trends:

Her recent articles (2009-2017) reveal a dual focus: (i) upstream bioprocess development—carbon/nitrogen feeding strategies, vitamin supplementation, strain adaptation—for gram-scale lipid and pigment production, and (ii) downstream analytical and environmental proteomics, assessing toxicant impacts on aquatic organisms. The integration of omics with process engineering underpins a sustainable biomanufacturing pipeline.
