Dr. Xu Zhu is an Honorary Lecturer at the School of Computer Science, University of St Andrews. His research focuses on constraint modeling, visualization, and human-computer interaction (HCI), with a particular emphasis on developing tools to enhance problem-solving processes in constraint programming. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of St Andrews, completed in 2023 under supervisors Dr. Martin Nacenta and Dr. Özgür Akgün.
His work spans visual modeling tools like Solvi, gaze-based interaction methods for mobile devices (DynamicRead), and studies on how humans conceptualize and solve constraint problems. He has contributed to projects such as The Role of the University in the Ethical Digital Nation (2024–2025), emphasizing ethical considerations in digital technologies.
Zhu has published in top-tier journals including the IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics and the Journal of Computer Languages. His datasets and software, including tools for constraint modeling and HCI studies, are openly accessible via platforms like Zenodo and the University of St Andrews Research Portal.
