Xtine Burrough is a Professor and former Area Head of Design + Creative Practice at the Harry W. Bass Jr. School of Arts, Humanities, and Technology, University of Texas at Dallas. She holds an M.F.A. in Visual Art from Vermont College of Fine Arts and a B.F.A. in Photography from The Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University. Her work bridges media art, social practice, and computational poetry, emphasizing participatory strategies and remix methodologies.
Research interests include digital labor, networked participation, and synthetic/electronic poetry through LabSynthE, a collaborative art laboratory she co-directs. Key projects include Women's Work is (Screen) Saved (2022), Robot Strike! (2022), and participatory installations like Ceremonial Techne. She co-edited The Routledge Companion to Remix Studies and authored Foundations of Digital Art and Design with Adobe Creative Cloud.
Burrough’s creative practice engages public spaces through interventions addressing labor rights, pandemic narratives, and accessibility. She has exhibited at NYU, Dallas Museum of Art, and CentralTrak, while mentoring LabSynthE collaborators across undergraduate to PhD levels. Current roles include editor of Visual Communication Quarterly and advisory board member of the Feminist Research Collective.
Her lab’s installations, such as the Audio Quilt of One Thousand Names, explore memory, collaboration, and technology’s role in activism. Ongoing projects include Art as Social Practice: Technologies for Change and exploring telematic art’s potential in post-pandemic connectivity.
