Xinyu Wang

Dr. Xinyu Wang is a Lecturer at the School of Computer and Mathematical Sciences, Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology, University of Adelaide, and a researcher with the Australian Institute for Machine Learning (AIML).

Dr. Wang received his PhD from the University of Adelaide under the supervision of Prof. Chunhua Shen, and subsequently worked as a Research Fellow at AIML for two years, collaborating with A/Prof. Qi Wu. His office is located in Room 5.48D, Ingkarni Wardli on the North Terrace campus.

His research interests span multimodal machine learning with a recent focus on Large Multimodal Models (LMMs). His work emphasizes improving the efficiency and accessibility of LMMs while exploring interdisciplinary applications in document analysis, paleography, game theory and computational social sciences. Dr. Wang's current research primarily focuses on the intersection of computer vision and natural language processing, with special interest in multi-modal reasoning. Recently, his work has expanded into deep learning applications within computational social sciences and game theory, including projects on deciphering ancient scripts and studying LMM behavior in multi-agent cooperation/competition scenarios.

Dr. Wang has been actively publishing research papers in prestigious AI conferences including CVPR, ACL, and ICLR.

Dr. Wang is eligible to supervise Masters and PhD students as a Co-Supervisor. He accepts 1-2 talented Honours or Master's students each semester who meet specific criteria: high GPA (>= 6.5), strong Python programming skills, completion of AI-related courses (Deep Learning Foundations, Applied Natural Language Processing, Using Machine Learning Tools, Computer Vision), and familiarity with deep learning frameworks like PyTorch and TensorFlow.
