Dr. Xinyan Shi is a full Professor of Economics at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke's Thomas College of Business and Economics, specializing in the Department of Economics, Marketing, Entrepreneurship and Analytics. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from UNC Chapel Hill and previously served as a visiting professor at Central Michigan University.
Her research explores diverse economic domains with primary focus areas including:
- Behavioral economics and experimental methodologies
- Public economics and policy implications
- Game theory applications in market design
- Health economics and pandemic response
Dr. Shi leads significant NIH-funded research ($1.8M) investigating COVID-19 testing/vaccination behaviors, directing all project aspects from experimental design to community outreach. Her publications demonstrate consistent focus on behavioral decision-making, with recent work emphasizing pandemic-related health economics and community-based interventions.
Honors include:

As Principal Investigator of a cross-institutional COVID-19 research team, she mentors graduate students while chairing university committees including Promotion/Tenure and Faculty Senate Executive Committee.
