Dr. Xintong Jia is a Lecturer in the Department of Sociology and Criminology at the University of Essex. She holds a PhD in Sociology from City, University of London (2023) and joined Essex in September 2023. Her research explores how social and cultural forces shape identity formation with expertise in gender, media, and postfeminist discourses in transnational contexts.
Her research examines media representations of gender, consumer culture, and audience reception, particularly regarding reality dating shows and advertising in post-socialist China. She maintains active involvement with the European Sociological Association as a board member in their Sexuality Research Network.
Dr. Jia teaches undergraduate courses including Unlocking Your Academic Potential, Researching Social Life, Media, Culture and Society, and Digital Economy. She currently supervises PhD candidate Yuhe Yang in History and welcomes prospective students interested in her research areas.
