Xingjun Fan, PhD is a Professor at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta University, affiliated with the Department of Cellular Biology and Anatomy and the James and Jean Culver Vision Discovery Institute. His research focuses on aging and age-related diseases, particularly the role of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and glutathione homeostasis in age-related nuclear cataract (ARNC) and Alzheimer’s disease (AD).
- Research Interests: Oxidative stress, lens biology, neurodegeneration, fibrosis, ROS signaling, and GSH metabolism.
Recent work explores GPX4 deficiency in lens development, γ-crystallin aggregation, and the Maillard reaction in protein aging. His lab uses in vitro and in vivo models to study posterior capsule opacification (PCO) and amyloid-beta pathology. Publications highlight mechanisms of GSH decline in aging, EMT signaling, and oxidative stress in cataractogenesis and neurodegeneration.
Laboratory Members: Zongbo Wei (Assistant Research Scientist), Kailin Li (Postdoctoral Fellow), Kazi Rafsan Radeen (Graduate Student). The lab recruits postdoctoral fellows via xfan@augusta.edu.
Key Techniques: Transcriptomics, proteomics, capillary electrophoresis, fluorescence derivatization, and mouse models of aging.
