Xing Xu is a renowned paleontologist and evolutionary biologist affiliated with the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), specifically the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology (IVPP). He holds the rank of Researcher and serves as a doctoral supervisor. Born in Xinjiang in 1969, he earned his B.S. in Geology from Peking University (1992) and his Ph.D. from IVPP (2002). He was a postdoctoral fellow at the American Museum of Natural History (2003–2005).
His research focuses on Mesozoic reptiles, dinosaur evolution, and the origin of birds, contributing significantly to global paleontology. He has been recognized with prestigious awards, including CAS Outstanding Scientific Achievement Awards (2003, 2014), the National Natural Science Second Prize, and the TWAS Prize (2022).
Xing Xu has been featured in major scientific milestones, such as China's Top 10 Basic Science News (three times) and Science's Top 10 Breakthroughs (2014). He serves on editorial boards of journals like Acta Geologica Sinica and Frontiers in Earth Science. Additionally, he is a member of the UK Geological Society's Honorary Lifetime Membership and has shaped national committees in China.
