Xinchun Wang is a Professor of Linguistics at California State University, Fresno, affiliated with the College of Arts and Humanities. Holding a Ph.D. and MA in Applied Linguistics from Simon Fraser University (Canada) and a BA in English from Shanghai Normal University (China), her academic career spans over two decades, including roles as Assistant Professor (2003–2009) and Associate Professor (2009–2014) before her current position since 2014. She has also served as a Lecturer at institutions in China.
Research Interests focus on Second Language Acquisition, particularly adult learners' challenges in distinguishing and producing English vowels, Mandarin consonants, and tones. Her work explores the impact of length of residence on foreign accent, cross-linguistic perception, and the design of laboratory-based phonetic training programs with immediate feedback. These methods are integrated into her courses as CALL (Computer-Assisted Language Learning) activities.
Publications since 2007 highlight her expertise in phonetic training, speech perception-production links, and online collaborative learning. Notable contributions include a 2008 book on Perceptual Training for Learning English Vowels and empirical studies on Mandarin tones, English vowels, and digital pedagogy.
