Xin Tang is an Assistant Professor in Neurosurgery at Harvard Medical School and Principal Investigator at Boston Children's Hospital's F.M. Kirby Neurobiology Center. His laboratory develops precision medicine approaches for brain disorders using genome-edited stem cell models and high-throughput screening platforms. Research focuses on restoring neural excitation/inhibition balance through pharmacological and genetic interventions.
Major research directions include: 1) Therapeutic targeting of KCC2 chloride transporters to treat developmental encephalopathies; 2) Characterizing FLT3 kinase pathways in neuroinflammation; and 3) Disrupting tumor-brain microenvironment interactions in brain cancers. The lab combines CRISPR engineering, single-cell omics, electrophysiology, and behavioral analysis.
Dr. Tang received his PhD from Pennsylvania State University and completed postdoctoral training at Whitehead Institute. His work on KCC2 enhancers has therapeutic implications for Rett syndrome and epilepsy.
