Xin Liu

Dr. Xin Liu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington and a member of the Institute for Predictive Performance Methodologies at the UTA Research Institute. He holds a PhD in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from Purdue University.

His research develops computational methods at the intersection of:

• Multiscale modeling of composite materials
• Machine learning for materials design
• Additive manufacturing simulation
• Lattice metamaterials
• Finite element analysis

Dr. Liu's recent publications (2020-2025) demonstrate consistent innovation in neural network-enhanced modeling, with applications to composite design optimization, additive manufacturing certification, and lattice metamaterial development. Recurrent technical themes include multiscale homogenization techniques, point cloud representation learning, and industry-focused software tool development.

He currently advises multiple graduate students and maintains active research funding from NASA, DoD, and industry partners. Dr. Liu teaches courses in engineering statics and aerospace structures while serving as dissertation committee chair for several doctoral candidates.
